The goals of this course are to:

1. give you an appreciation of basic learning principles observed in both animals and humans
2. give you an opportunity to do hands-on research in a psychology laboratory
3. improve your writing skills.

As a class, we will conduct 3 experiments in animal behavior and learning. On your own, you will read and summarize 4 articles, complete writing exercises and write 3 papers. Quizzes will be based on lectures and readings.

Because the experiments are conducted as a class, your classmates depend on your attendance for collecting data; therefore, attendance is mandatory. Absenteeism will result in grade reductions.

There are no required textbooks for this course. Required readings will be announced in class and will be made available online (www.libraries.rutgers.edu). Connect to “Reserves” and search using my name, “Sisti, Helene.”

Revisions to the syllabus may be necessary. Any changes will be announced during the beginning or end of class.
